Activity Resource Estimating

This is the process of estimating how many resources a project team should use to perform project activities. Before estimating activity durations, the PM must have a good idea of the quantity and type of resources that will be assigned to each activity. Consider important issues in estimating resources:

  • How difficult will it be to complete specific activities on this project?
  • What is the organization’s history in doing similar activities?
  • Are the required resources available?

Scope Verification

Scope verification is the process of formalizing acceptance of the project scope by the stakeholders. It requires reviewing work products and results to ensure that all were completed correctly and satisfactorily. Scope verification occurs at the end of each project phase, and as part of the project closeout process. Scope verification is concerned with stakeholder Acceptance of the work. Work is sometime denied and must be Re-Worked.

Scope Definition

Decomposing the major project deliverables into smaller, more manageable components completes scope Definition. There are a good number of outputs from the Scope Definition phases that you’ll need to be familiar with.

Scope definition is the subdivision of project deliverables into smaller (and more manageable) pieces until you have adequately identified in the work breakdown structure all the work on the project.

Integrated Change Control

The purpose of overall change control is to influence factors that create change so the change is beneficial, determine when a change has occurred, and manage actual changes when they do occur. This process is concerned with coordinating changes across the entire project. Performed from project Inception through Completion. A Change Control System is used to evaluate and approve or kickback change requests for the project. Changes requests stem from suggestions of the stakeholders. Preliminary Scope Statement

This document establishes the reason for doing the project and provides a high-level product description. Its intent is to serve as a reference for future project decisions on what will-and will not-be accomplished within the project. The Scope Statement provides reasons for and justification of the project deliverables. In addition, the Scope Statement should provide detailed information on what the project objectives are, how they will be measured, and the expected level of quality.

Stakeholder Management

You should recognize the importance of involving stakeholders in the development of the project plan. It is the responsibility of the project manager and the project team to create an environment in which all stakeholders can contribute as appropriate, but recognize that who contributes and the level of the contribution will vary by stakeholder. There are usually a number of people who are either directly involved in a project or who have a stake in its outcome. These people are called stakeholders.
