An early study into how companies are coping with the financial crisis by A.T. Kearney showed that companies focused on sustainability outperformed their peers by 15%.

At present a good number of developing countries have one thing common in their daily news headlines, that is the announcement of new e-Governance projects. Although it has opened up enormous opportunities in last 5-7 years for IT companies but it is very sad to be acquainted with that project management teams in most of the IT companies are struggling in tackling bureaucratic issues, very low computer education level of government employees, employees confrontation in adopting and learning new practices, distributed decision making authorities in government departments for a single project, long delays in taking decisions attributable to rigid government organization structure.

What does sustainability mean? Based on thecontext of this question there are various possible answers. The aim of this articleis to view sustainability management and reporting from a project managementperspective.

The Standish Group's just-released their recent edition of their famous, "CHAOS Summary 2009" report.  "This year's results show a marked decrease in project success rates, with 32% of all projects succeeding which are delivered on time, on budget, with required features and functions" says Jim Johnson, chairman of The Standish Group, "44% were challenged which are late, over budget, and/or with less than the required features and functions and 24% failed which are cancelled prior to completion or delivered and never used."
